New Hair Color
For a couple of years I've been dying my own hair. I get very easily bored with having the same hair color for too long. With that being said changing your hair color can cause damage. I've been down the road of bleaching my hair and never quite loved the end result. With bleach there comes a lot of drying and maintenance to the hair. Until I figured there are other ways I could lift my natural hair color without bleach. I probably have done all the remedy's to lightening brunette hair. The lemon and peroxide mixture, head and shoulders shampoo. But, nothing seemed to work and then I thought to try hair dye. There are 10 levels in hair color depending on the color you're trying to achieve your either depositing color or lifting.
With knowledge that my natural hair color is about a level 2, dark brown lighter hair dyes would only lift it a couple of shades. Also I knew my hair would either pull brass or red tones. So I started doing some research on the different dyes that were successful in lifting dark brown hair. I finally came to different dyes both by L'Oreal. At this point I wasn't using box hair dyes because I knew salon professional hair dyes are better for your hair.
So I first looked into the L'Oreal Hi Color hair dyes which have lightening properties in them that help lighten dark hair. The developer you use is also important the higher the level the more your hair will lift. Since 40 is the highest, but also the most damaging developer I use a level 30 instead, just my preference. This worked and I still use it, but I knew there was more I could do to help lift my hair. That's where I added in a toner.
I use the Wella toner T18. I apply it with the same 30 volume developer and let it sit on my hair. After a couple of times of lighting my hair using these products I took it a step further and came across the L'Oreal Preference LB01 box hair dye. I 'm okay with using this color just for lifting purposes. I found this actually helped a lot. But, I still worried about the brassy tones. So, I found a gold and red additive to combine in with the hair color.
So to lift my hair I either use both of these hair dyes or just one. Just recently I was tired of my red hair that I actually used the same L'Oreal hi color and L'Oreal Chroma dyes to achieve the color, again without bleach. I decided I wanted my hair pink, but I knew it wasn't going to be easy to remove the red from my whole head. Red and black hair color are the most hardest colors to remove they stain the cuticle of your hair. So, I stuck to the same process and use the L'Oreal Preference with the red, gold corrector. I did this twice until I was pleased with how much red I was able to remove and then I used the Wella toner. As for the pink I used two different colors, created an ombré effect so that it blended well and added a dark brown to my roots. Rinse it with cold water. I let my the dye sit a little longer than just 20 minutes. Also to prevent the colors from bleeding I like to let wherever I placed the dye completely dry before rinsing.
Ion Color Brilliance Brights in Magenta and the N' Rage Feisty Fuschia. For my roots I used Ion Color Brilliance in Dark Brown 2n, I prefer the liquid rather than the creme. Afterwards I make sure I deep condition my hair. Never forget to deep condition after any hair color.
