Determining The Right Dermatologist For Your Skin
I often see this question floating around "How do I decide on the right dermatologist?" but I feel there's always missing pieces to the answer. First off with any doctor if you have insurance always check to see if you will be covered. Here's where google comes in handy. Always do your research, check for local dermatologists in your area and read their reviews from previous patients.
Health Grade is a great website/app to find doctors you're provided with the doctor, their location, ratings from patients and even insurances they are affiliated with. A major tip when your looking for a dermatologist is making sure they know your skin based upon your ethnicity. That way you're comfortable with any medication or product they suggest. Make sure they are hands on, meaning they will be willing to touch your skin. In my past experience I had a dermatologist who never fully examined my skin (this is their livelihood examining the skin is a must).
Once you make your final decision, when you make your first appointment update your dermatologist on your health and the type of skin you have (oily, combination, normal, sensitive). Acne or any skin problem can have a lot to with your health and water intake, so you want to take that into consideration as well. Your dermatologist may want to test out different medications or make suggestions. Just be open and trusting they know what they're doing.
